Thucydides, who wrote the most substantial history progressively throughout the war, said he did so because he thought it would be a momentous conflict, as it in fact turned out to be for the Greek world.

Who wrote a detailed account of the Persian Wars and considered the Father of History?

Thucydides was a Athenian historian who is often considered the "first historian", the first to document his sources and to interview witnesses to the events that he described. When he was speculating as to how things may have happened, he SAID that these were recreations and speculations. His "The History of the Peloponnesian War" tried - and to a great extent, succeeded, in laying out a chronological description of the events of the wars between the various city-states. (Note: back then, there was no nation called "Greece", or even "Hellas". The various city-states were independent, and often warred with each other. Thucydides does a great job of explaining the internal struggles.
