Which secret? I can only answer that for her 3 secrets I remember, because in the book she kept alot of secrets. 1) She didn't tell anyone Angela was the bomber, because Theo said everyone knew who the bomber was, thinking it was Turtle, so she thought everyone knew, and for the family Angela was an Agelic symbol , a perfect girl. So even if she thought everyone knew "Angie-Pie" was the bomber she would'nt bring that subject up. 2) She didn't tell anyone Sandy was Julian Eastman because he probabally didn't want his "four winds" puzzle's answer known by anyone but Turtle. 3) Turtle didn't tell anyone (until the end) she was at the Westing Mansion the night Sam Westing was found "Dead" because she didn't want to be a suspect for murder.

Turtle Wexler kept her secret out of fear that if she revealed her past, her family's reputation would be tainted. Additionally, keeping her secret gave her a sense of power and control over her own identity.
