Why did William Shakespeare write?

Probably to get his emotions out. He didn't exactly have a good life, and writing helps some people to express themselves and make themselves feel better.

Shakespeare wrote because it was his job. At the same time, he may have written some of his sonnets for no specific financial purpose, although we really have no idea why he wrote the sonnets--he may have been paid to write them too. Shakespeare actually had a pretty good life, and went from being relatively poor to being relatively rich and comfortable. His writing does not appear to have any relationship with the circumstances of his life. It is only a romantic fantasy that all authors write about their own personal turmoil.
