What did Woodrow Wilson think would happen to America after the war?

Woodrow Wilson desired for peace, and wanted his fourteen points to be regarded in the peace treaty. but mainly he desired for a League of Nations, a committee for all nations. however AMerica felt differently, and senate never signed this treaty. In his tries to form a support group for this document, he went around giving speeches, but eventually had a stroke due to overwork. all his tries failed, because his wife would not let him meet anyone when he suffered from stroke, and America suffered with having no President.

What was the the league of nations?

The League of Nations was designed by Woodrow Wilson (first mentioned in his list of 14 points) to be an international peace-keeping force. Its main aims were:Collective securityDisarmamentImprove living and working conditions (humanitarian)World peaceIt was made up of 63 countries and met once a year to solve issues without using military force. The countries had to vote for a law to be passed. However, The League of Nations didn't have anything to enforce their rules, and so it wasn't very effective. The main countries were Great Britain, Italy, France and Japan. Although America had designed and erected the League of Nations, she did not join due to a vary of reasons.

Why didn't America join the League of Nations?

AnswerThey didn't join the league of nations because they were worried about sending out soldiers and people to fight that they didn't want to lose/die. America didn't want the British and french ruling their country because they wanted to be independent. they thought it would be like signing a blank check. spending money that they didn't need to spend was vital for USA because that's what they needed to stay a strong country.

What were the League of Nations weakness?

America did not join even though it was Woodrow Wilson's idea to set up the an international idea promoting peace, but the United Stated did not want to be pulled into Europe's problems and adopted an isolation policy. Russia was not allowed to join because it's Communist/Bolshevik policies were feared by Western Europe and America, it also killed it's royal family, the Romanovs. Later wars with Poland did not help Russia's chances of entering. Germany was not allowed to join in 1919 because it had started World War One, but Stresemann did manage to let Germany join in 1926. The United States, Russia and Germany were among the great powers and having them not entered in the League really undermined it. The League had no army, especially not having the United States for military support. The League only had France and Britain who were not willing to support the League financially or with the military because it was still recovering from the First World War. So the League could one verbally warn a country not to enter another or tell the countries in the League not to trade with that country but that country could still trade with non-members of the League like America.

Why did the League of Nations fail over Abyssinia?

The league of nations failed in Abyssinia because it was too weak and frightened of Italy to stand up against Italy. the league was frightened if they upset Italy's prime minister Benito Mussolini, that he may not help the league if Hilter were to attck again, so they basically let Italy do what they wanted because the the league was weak and defenseless. Hope that helped

What two US presidents in the early 20th Century were proponents of the so-called presidential initiative?

US presidents Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were proactive in so-called presidential initiatives. Despite that, the US Senate was not about to let claim for foreign policy to slip out of their constitutional hands. The treaty powers of the US Senate were most evident with Wilson. He virtually ignored the Senate as Wilson negotiated the Treaty of Versailles. The Senate rejected the League of Nations and overall the Treaty of Versailles.

Why did the league of nations failed?

The main reasons for the failure of the League of Nations can be summarised into the following points:Not all countries joined the League.Although the idea for the League of Nations had come from Woodrow Wilson, there was a change of government in the United States before the signing of the treaty and the new Republican government refused to join. As a punishment for having started World War One, Germany was not allowed to join and Russia was also excluded due to a growing fear of Communism. Other countries decided not to join and some joined but later left. The League had no power. The main weapon of the League was to ask member countries to stop trading with an aggressive country. However, this did not work because countries could still trade with non-member countries. When the world was hit by depression in the late 1920s countries were reluctant to lose trading partners to other non-member countries. The League had no army.Soldiers were to be supplied by member countries. However, countries were reluctant to get involved and risk provoking an aggressive country into taking direct action against them and failed to provide troops.Unable to act quickly. The Council of the League of Nations only met four times a year and decisions had to be agreed by all nations. When countries called for the League to intervene, the League had to set up an emergency meeting, hold discussions and gain the agreement of all members. This process meant that the League could not act quickly to stop an act of aggression.
