That is what the myths tell us. . Only the Olympic Gods "lived" on Mt Olympos in Greek Mythology. There was a constant need for the balance of Olympus to be maintained, so additional deities were usually ordered as such, including Hestia, Goddess of the Hearth and Home, who was eligible and rightf…ul to Olympus, but having upset the balance of Gods to Goddesses, she was not considered an Olympic God, and gave it up on her will, as to her it seemed more vital to dwell in the hearth and home. And even the Deities didnt stay on Olympos all the time- Artemis, the Goddess of the Hunt, was always one to go on hunts in the wilderness, and represented hunting and the movements of animals in these aspects, Apollo had a holy place near Delphi,Poseidon dealt with the seas, so often he was in the sea, and representative of the sea. Often all the Deities were not assembled unless it was a full-fledged call of Zeus to "come to order".You can also see how often the deities were not constantly on Olympos, rather being representative and of what they were. ICARUS Your description doesn't exactly match any single Greek legend. . Icarus' father Daedalus made wings out of feather's and wax so that he and Icarus could escape from the island of Crete. Against his father's warnings he flew too close to the sun and the wax melted sending Icarus falling… to his death. . The Greek Hero Bellerophon rode the winged horse Pegasus up Mount Olympus and got hit by a lightening bolt from Zeus for his presumptuousness. He didn't die however but lived the rest of his life as a simpleton and a fool . The Titan Prometheus stole fire from the sun to give to man. Zeus punished him by chaining him to a rock and having an eagle eat out his liver every day. . Ixion was invited by Zeus to be a guest in Olympia. There Ixion breached hospitality rules by trying to have six with Zeus' wife. For this offense Zeus bound Ixion to an burning and ever-spinning wheel and cast him down to Hades. ( Full Answer )

Many variations of this myth. Some say Hera through him off Olympus and Zeus covered for her but the general idea is that it is because Hephaestus was not pretty and the Olympian Gods were generally really vain. Meaning that they valued looks, Hephaestus was ugly therefore he was thrown from a mount…ain. There are different variations of course but this is the one I'm familiar with. ( Full Answer )
