The traditional art of the aboriginals is dots doing dots in the sand. Some of the other traditional art is painting on rocks and in caves. The reason aboriginals do dot paintings now is when white people came to Australia they saw the paintings and thought they would be good on a canvas.

It's possible, as it seems that the art and science of tapping maple trees is something that was founded in North America, not anywhere else in the world. The white immigrants would've thus learned to make maple syrup from the aboriginals like the Iroquois, Algonquins and/or Mohicans.
