Really? Actually they used caves only if there were habitable ones in their area. They would not normally have ventured much beyond the limit of daylight, as long as the cave offered sufficient shelter, although they did so in those they decorated. Why, is anyone's guess - we can admire their art but cannot know its purpose beyond pure creativity and aesthetics.
