The dinosaurs didn't survive because when the meteor hit, there was a bunch of dust and soil that rose out of the earth, causing the sun to block out. All of everything died because the sun wasn't reaching the earth. First the plants died, then the plant eaters, then the meat eaters, see? It totally destroyed the web of life.

∙ 14y agoThat's a difficult question to answer mainly because we don't really know whether it really is an asteroid that made the dinosaurs extinct (although that's the most widely accepted theory). There are some other ideas scientists have as to why dinosaurs might have disappeared. Some say that a toxic plant that looked much like a primary food source for many herbivores came about and decreased their population, which lead to the starvation of carnivores. There were also a few other theories, but I don't quite remember what they exactly were. Hope that helps!
