Otto Frank feared what might happen so he decided to pick up his family and move to the Netherlands (which had been neutral in the first world war and people thought would remain neutral during the second world war)
Because the situation for any Jew in Germany was becoming impossible to deal with. Literally prisoners in their own country, and in constant fear for their own safety, the Franks - and many thousands of other Jews - left Germany for anyplace they felt would be a safer haven.
