Tom Delonge (Vocals, guitar) was really into writing lyrics and began to play them on his guitar, but wanted a band behind him. Delonge was friends with Hoppus' (Bass, vocals) sister, and she notified him that Hoppus was looking to be in a band too. I don't know how Scott Raynor (Former drummer) joined them but I think he met Delonge at Battle of the Bands a few years earlier or something.
