castles changed as more and better siege weapons were being devoleped which were better at destroying bigger better castles were needed they started of as tiny motte and bailey castles but turned out to be massive concentric castles

Medieval castles changed because Wooden castles weren't very strong, rotted quickly, and would sag when ever it rained, it also could easily catch on fire! (even a small kitchen fire!) Stone never had any of those problems and was much more sturdier, the only disadvantage for stone castles would be that it took a long time to build, it would only grow up to 10 feet per year!

They didn't become old fashioned, there were more castles built in the Middle Ages than at any other time.
