Evacuees of London, England during World War II, most of them children, were sent to towns and cities that were north of London, England. Many citizens of London, England stayed in underground shelters overnight during the bombings. They had to leave them during the day and then stand in line to get back into them at night.

During world war 2 the german army would bomb London on a regular basis. To protect the children of London they would be evacuated to the country side. The parents still had to work though so they would stay behind in London.

because of the Luftwaffe's bombing of London and other major cities during the blitz, many children were evacuated to rural and lesser populated areas to move them out of possible harms way. London, for example relied heavily on the tube system ( underground rail ) as bomb shelters, which became extremely crowded. My mother was one of the children evacuated during the war.

Constant bombing, children had to be evacuated by trains to foster homes. Better to read a diary or a book on this. Germans attacked London, i don't remember when though.
In England, they tried to get the kids out of London and the area that was within the range of the German bombers. In US, there was not threat to the children.
