In the book "Touching Spirit Bear," Cole fears failure, rejection, and being vulnerable. He struggles with his past traumas and attempts to build walls around himself to protect against further hurt, making it difficult for him to trust others and find healing.
Cole is used to nobody caring about him because his father beats him and he was used to beating people and making fear so that he would barely notice his own fear inside
to have one last stand before "dieing" like he thought he was going to. He wanted to die with dignity.

Touching Spirit Bear is a book that is about a boy named Cole that was evil and mean child becoming a nice and helpful child by the spirit bear
Cole grabbed a stick to pull away from the bear in the book "Touching Spirit Bear." He used the stick to hit the bear on the nose and deter it from attacking him.

He doesn't attack him after the first time. Because the first time Spirit Bear attacked him Cole was a threat, later in the book, Cole understands that for Spirit Bear to trust him he can't threaten Spirit Bear.
