They were important to King Tut for the same reason they were important to other pharaohs or kings of the time. It was believed they would need those things in the after life.

King Tuts treasures are so important to modern day people because his tomb was the first to be found complete, and not looted of it's treasure. King Tut's tomb is the first true glimpse we have of this ancient civilizations burial rituals, with all their possessions.

They were buried with the rich Egyptians because they owned the treasure when they were alive. Only important or royal people would be kept safely in a pyramid. If just a hobo or villager died they would be lucky to be buried in a cemetery. Peasants weren't treated very well...

Many things that were buried were childhood toys because he became Pharaoh at a very young age as his father died when he was five and he was heir to the throne.
