because he thought everyone was equal
Gandhi worked to eradicate untouchability and discrimination based on caste, but he did not completely abolish the caste system in India. The caste system is deeply ingrained in Indian society and continues to exist in various forms despite efforts to eliminate it. Gandhi's work did contribute to increased awareness and efforts toward social equality.
Gandhi believed in equivalence in the Hindu Caste system & Hinduism.
He helped lead to getting it outlawed in India.
Gandhi opposed the caste system in India and believed in the equality of all individuals regardless of their caste. He worked towards eradicating the discrimination and untouchability associated with the caste system by promoting social reforms and advocating for the equal treatment of all people. Gandhi saw the caste system as a social evil that needed to be abolished for the betterment of Indian society.
Gandhi opposed the idea of untouchability, a discriminatory practice that placed individuals in the lowest caste based on their birth. He advocated for the equality and dignity of all individuals regardless of their caste.
Because he did believe in it. He may have moved away from the frigid belief in the system for some sort of political gain but Gandhi believed that some human races were born better then the others. See his comments on the blacks and indians.
Well, if you are a non-Hindu, you are instantly placed in the untouchables caste which was, however, removed in Gandhi's time. Since non-Hindus have no ties with the Caste System, it isn't mentioned as much.
Ghandi's caste was Vaisya, a merchant caste
He wanted to bring peace to Hindu
In India there is a caste system and the lowest caste of them all is called the "untouchables" so when Gandhi said that...he was saying that basically no one is better than anyone else and that we are all equal
i know that each and every source will tell u that Gandhi was against the caste system, but in fact he wanted the system. Gandhi was a Vaishya, he wanted to create an image to the Indian people that he was against, by calling them harijans. he had started a starvation proces, in which he said that if Shudars (the lowest caste) were allowed to have rights, he would starve to death. that proves that he was never in favour of getting rid of casteism. if Gandhi said that Shudars were children og god, then he is basically saying that he is not a child of god. Gandhi was a Hindu, and hindus apparently believe in equal treatment, by introducing the caste system they have showed that they infact don't believe in the caste system. so , i ask if u are a shudar and u call yourself Hindu , think to yourself, do u want to be part of a religion that does not treat u well, and thinks of u as untouchable
He didnt......he was absolutely in favor of the caste system and all the injustices that came along with it. He was a deeply flawed man, unlike the portrait society paints of him.
