In April of 1775, General Gage ordered British troops to Concord for two reasons. First, he suspected (rightly) that military weapons had been hidden there by rebellion-minded colonists; the troops were to uncover and destroy those arms. Second, several rebel leaders were rumored to be in hiding in Concord; the troops were to identify and arrest those leaders, if the opportunity to do so arose.
