As a person who chooses to believe in a God, I think that God decides when each person is going to leave this world. I tend to think that this world is a place where we learn lessons to prepare us for a future life in a different place. Sometimes we are the student and sometimes we are the teacher. When we have done what we have been sent to do, God takes us to the next place.

Your husband completed his task. He loved you, you learned the lessons of love from him, and it was time for him to go. The shock, pain, anger, and hurt that you are feeling is part of growing..and mourning. Don't try to justify it, just feel it.

It's not easy to let go. Even though we know that death is coming, we choose to hide from it. We hope against hope that somehow death can be avoided and that we will live here forever. But even so, it can be a blessing. Your husband does not have to battle the trials of life any more, he is not in pain, and he no longer has to worry about the things of this life. You are the only regret that he had...he couldn't take you with him.

Each person must face death. It isn't pretty, it isn't nice, and it isn't something that Americans talk about much. My dear, it is so hard to go on without him! But you must, it isn't your time yet. Grief is a process that we all have to do at some point. You are one of the people he left a legacy with. All people leave legacies, you are the living recorder of his life. Talk about him! Tell your children of their father, what he means to you, and how it was before they came. Write it down! The memories are so sharp now, and you need to write them down.

Yes, I know that people say that time will heal the raw wound you have in your heart now. Now is now..later comes too slowly. Cry, mourn, and remember. Later, when the raw hurt is a little less, you can be "rational". Not now, be the lost little girl who has had her greatest support taken away. You need to let the hurt be part of who you are. It is the most difficult part of being half of a life that you had together, going on alone.

But you do go on. Wait and let life happen. Eventually it will become a dull throb. Eventually you can talk without sobs. Eventually you can function without having him in your thoughts 24/7. Not now, but eventually.

Know this, and do it one day at a time..even one hour at a time. The strength that you never knew you had will come as you need it. And reach out to whoever will listen. Let those around you become your strength until you can find the strength to do it yourself.
