Because of the long distance and very few travel options. The ocean was too long to swim or find something to float on.

It is very possible that early people went up north from China, went through Russia, crossed westward near the north pole, and went down through North America. They likely traveled on foot and/or by animals.

it took so long for people to get to south america because they had to walk there. There was no water connecting it and they invented water travel with boats already so they took longer
