It was there where they could talk "privately" without the crowds of people around. In private, Jesus spoke without parables and revealed the future to His disciples in clear plain language.

It was on the Mount of Olives where they inquired about the end times (which they thought were right then) and when He would reveal Himself as King? And it was there... in private... where Jesus is recorded to have listed the straight forward end time signs in Matthew 24.

"...as He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him PRIVATELY, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be?" (Matt.24:3)

Why did Jesus go on the mountain?

Jesus went to the mountain to pray as the scripture says:And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.(Mark 6.46)Four of these times are recorded in the Gospels.Answer:He would go to a mountain to escape the crowds of people that followed Him; both for solitude and prayer... and so that He could be alone with His disciples. They would follow Him up... but there was no room to support the multitudes."And seeing the multitudes, He went up into a mountain: and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him: and He opened His mouth, and taught them..." What would have happened if Peter had not gone to the tomb of Jesus?

In fact, Peter only went to the tomb of Jesus in Luke and John, which are interdependent gospels. In Matthew, Jesus told the women to tell the disciples to go to Galilee, where he would meet them. Peter did not go to the tomb. In the "Long Ending" to Mark, the women told the disciples that Jesus had risen, but they did not believe. None of the disciples went to the tomb.
