Because Jesus needed to teach man the way to salvation. They teach the qualities of those that reside in heaven so that we might know which qualities to possess and consequently which not to. Luke 6-20: "Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours. Blessed are you who are hungry, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way. But woe to you who are rich for you have received you consolation. But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated false prophets that way." DIFFERENT PERSON ADDED: if you believe these are the beatitudes you must be a wack job!

The reason the Beatitudes are important are because, they are the eight things that jesus taught the folks when they walked to him. They are also important because, they teach us how to live a good life, a way that Jesus wanted to and the rewards that God will give us in the end for the acts that we have done.

Four of the eight beatitudes are to be found in both Matthew and Luke, although with some differences. This four are believed to have been copied by both authors from the hypothetical 'Q' document, a book of sayings attributed to Jesus, and could therefore have actually been spoken by Jesus. The remaining four beatitudes, in Matthew only, can be found in various earlier sources, making it less likely that they were really spoken by Jesus. For example, Matthew's beatitude for the meek is likely to have been inspired by Psalm 37:11, especially given the author's frequent use of material from the Old Testament throughout the Gospel.

On this evidence, Jesus gave us, at most, only four beatitudes, which can be found in Matthew as blessing: The poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

Mourners, for they will be comforted

Those that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled

Those persecuted for seeking righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven;

or in Luke as blessing:

The poor, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

Those who are weeping, for they will laugh

The hungry, for they will be satisfied

Followers of the Son of Man, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Looking at the above, it can be seen that they are close in wording but sometimes quite different in meaning. Without knowing which were the original words of the four beatitudes, it is difficult to say why Jesus gave us the beatitudes.And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

AnswerJesus was a teacher - the Beatitudes are part of many lessons he imparted. Those who appear to do well in an earthly sense may not always be right with God, and those whom the world shuns may be far more well-off. Jesus shows that there is hope in even the most seemingly hopeless situation. The values of the world, and God's values do not always line up - worldly happiness does not always bring ultimate or true happiness.

They are important because they are the places where Jesus sits down and formally describes the nature of the Kingdom of God in extensive, detailed terms. He explains who the subjects are, how they get rewarded, and for what. He lays down the basics of the "corporate culture" of the Kingdom on Earth, all the time reminding them, "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven." (Matthew 6:20) You can't say you've given Jesus a proper hearing until you've at least read what He has/had to say in the Beatitudes; they are a key element to gaining that understanding.

Jesus Christ gave us the eight Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount, recorded for all posterity in the Gospel of Matthew, the first Book of the New Testament of The Bible. Matthew's Gospel was directed to an audience steeped in Hebrew tradition. The Gospel of Matthew stressed that Jesus is the Christ or Messiah foretold in Hebrew Scripture, our Old Testament, and that the Kingdom of the Lord is the Kingdom of God in Heaven. Jesus offers us a way of life that promises eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven
