* Parables are what Christ used in The Bible to teach lessons. He used them to teach lessons to the children and everyone else, though only those who were willing to follow Him actually learned their true meaning. == == * Jesus told parables while He was teaching, to help us understand what He was telling us. == == * To confuse those who are not Jesus' direct disciples.Luke 8:9And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?8:10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. == == * Parables have been used in a number of different contexts as a method of teaching. In the New Testament the Greek word parabole means 'a placing beside' or a 'placing of one thing beside another' with the idea of making a comparison. The parable is generally used to describe a teaching or story which is drawn from either nature or human experience, the aim of which is to teach or illustrate a spiritual lesson. There is a distinction between a parable which uses earthly things and gives them a spiritual meaning, and a fable which gives things attributes which they do not normally have naturally.

* Jesus frequently taught in parables in which He frequently taught truths connected with the kingdom of God. It has been noted by some that Jesus' withholding of the true meaning of the parables was a judgment upon them due to their being in some manner unworthy. Edersheim expands on this when he states in relation to them "They are all occasioned by some unreceptiveness on the part of the hearers, and that, even when the hearers are professing disciples." (Alfred Edersheim:The Life and Times of Jesus The Messiah, p400)

* Thus, the secret of the parables was most certainly available to all who sincerely sought it with a heart that was right. The spiritual analogy was not for those who did not wish to submit themselves and to follow Jesus as their master and so it remained hidden from them. Their lack of submission and receptiveness was their choice. At other times Jesus spoke plainly enough, as well as through His works.

* Jesus spoke in Parables because he learnt this method from his training in India and Tibet.

It was prophesied that the Messiah would teach this way "(Matthew 13:34+5 / Psalm 78:2), so Jesus' use of parables was a fulfillment of prophecy.

ONE reason he did this was so people who would like to understand Jesus could understand his teachings easier(Matthew 13:3-8 + Matthew 13:47 / Mark 4:30)and at the same time, separate those who were not sincerely interested(Matthew 13:10-15). People who were truly interested in understanding what he meant, would ask for explanation(Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43)others would leave confused(1 Corinthians 2:14).

Matthew 13:10-15New International Version (NIV)

10 The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?"

11 He replied, "Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

"Though seeing, they do not see;

though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:

"'You will be ever hearing but never understanding;

you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.

15 For this people's heart has become calloused;

they hardly hear with their ears,

and they have closed their eyes.

Otherwise they might see with their eyes,

hear with their ears,

understand with their hearts

and turn, and I would heal them.'

There's your answer; Jesus explained it pretty well!

Parables are stories that Jesus used to Explain spiritual concepts, using the physical and social things that people are accustomed to.

Answer:

Jesus employed parables in the presence of the crowds of people to "hide the meaning" of what He was saying from them.

"The disciples came to Him and asked, 'Why do you speak to the people in parables?' He replied, 'The knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven has been given to you, but not to them... This is why I speak to them in parables: 'Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: ''You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.'' " (Matt.13:10:15 NIV)

Only privately... alone with His disciples... did Jesus clearly explain the parable's meanings.

"...Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; He did not say anything to them without using a parable." (Matt.13:34 NIV)

"...Then He left the crowd and went into the (His) house. His disciples came unto Him and said, 'Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." (verse 36)

Jesus spoke parables to the multitudes so that THEY WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND what He was saying. The vast majority of mankind is not yet supposed to understand the Truth of God... but only those whom He is calling during this time dispensation, until He returns with the Kingdom of God.

It is these whom God is calling, teaching and training to obey His voice now who shall co-rule the Kingdom with Christ a thousand years. Then, shall God's Truth be made plain to all the nations of the earth.

"Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years." (Rev.20:6)

Then shall salvation and the healing of the earth and the nations begin wholesale.

"...Then the LORD my God will come, all the holy ones with Him (the saints)... it will be a unique Day, without daytime or nighttime - a Day known to the LORD. When evening comes, there will be light. On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem (an artesian well?)...The LORD will be King over the whole earth. On that Day there will be one LORD, and His name the only name." (Zech.14:5-9 NIV)

God has Children to rear and train for the jobs, offices and positions (mansions) that need filled in His coming Kingdom. And until He has a fully staffed and trained administration with which to rule and teach and heal the nations (His future Family)... the results would be not unlike what happened in Iraq, when the government was toppled, and no organized replacement government was thought out or prepared in any way for the people.

Unlike the Iraq fiasco... the Kingdom of God will not allow the people to reorganize and reestablish their own governments. They will learn to obey the decrees of the King.

"...the God of heaven will set up a Kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever." (Dan.2:44 NIV)

"Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up from year to year (for a thousand years) TO WORSHIP THE KING, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES." (Zech.14:16 NIV)

There's something impossible to imagine... Arabs, Greeks, and all the nations of the world observing what men call the "Jewish" Feast of Tabernacles (which pictures Christ's millennial rule) each year for a thousand years... commanded by the earth's new King, Jesus Christ.

No wonder He spoke in parables. No nation on earth would willingly lay down their sovereign seats of authority and power to allow some outsider to tell them what to do. It's best that they don't know yet. God's Truth would be too upsetting to man's governments if they knew, believed and understood it.

As it is prophesied of the time that Jesus finally does take over Government reins of the earth: "...We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty... because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. THE NATIONS WERE ANGRY; and your wrath has come..." (Rev.11:17-18 NIV).

The world is not yet ready to know God's Truth. Thus, the parables. A study of Jesus' "private parable lessons" found in the Bible, however, would reveal it to those with the eyes to see and the ears to hear. But God has to open those eyes and ears first:

"...Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures." (Luke 24:45 NIV)

Answer also: Jesus often used parables, short stories from which moral or spiritual truths are drawn.Since stories are easier to grasp and remember than abstract ideas, the parables helped to preserve Jesus' teaching. In many parables, Jesus described his Father with vivid word pictures that could not easily be forgotten. For example, who cannot comprehend the point of the parable of the prodigal son-that when one who has gone astray shows genuine repentance, Jehovah will feel pity and tenderly accept that one back?-Luke 15:11-32. We cannot help but marvel at his matchless ability to teach profound truths through everyday things. Farmers planting seeds, women preparing to bake bread, children playing in the marketplace, fishermen hauling in nets, shepherds searching for lost sheep-these were things his listeners had seen many times. When important truths are tied in with familiar things, such truths are etched quickly and deeply on the mind and heart.-Matthew 11:16-19; 13:3-8, 33, 47-50; 18:12-14.

When Jesus used a parable, it was because, it is easy for

people to understand a story. They can imagine the circumstances,

and apply their own common sense to the story. -And, they don't

have to think about the meaning of what he is saying, because they

can just see it from their understanding.

We often do the same thing. In a discussion, we tell a story. Everyone

is relieved, and it's kind of a treat, because human beings like to hear

a story - it takes them away from their own problems, and their own thoughts.

If the story is related to the discussion, it has a point, which is taken as evidence

which supports our discussion. Again, no thinking is required. The story

speaks to our own understanding, not to our mind.

A parable an illustration that puts something familiar alongside something unfamiliar. A parable is similar to a fable or an allegory or a proverb but parables are generally concerned with spiritual matters.

Jesus used parables as a teaching method to teach the people who followed him about, for example, the kingdom of heaven. He spoke in parables so that only those who were sincere would see the truth contained in them.

He hid His spiritual messages in stories. So the ones who were really seeking the truth would know what the stories meant.

Matthew 13:10-17 (King James Version)

10And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

13Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

16But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

17For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
