First, in theory, the people of England had more rights than anyone else in the entire world. The exceptions involved the nobility. While everyone was equal, the nobility was more equal. While the nobility could and did pull rank in the legislature, they did not have the power in the courts they had in England. The courts treated everyone alike until King George III established Admiralty Courts. During the Colonial period in America, England was a settled country. America was not. America had to create many solutions to solve many of its own problems. How would Americans create houses, schools, churches, roads, bridges, farms, etc., where there were none and fight hostile enemies at the same time? England did not have those problems. Thus, Americans used the rights they had and took other rights because they needed them to survive.
