The French trappers had come into the Northeast not as invaders like the English, but as friends. They married Native American women, learned the language, and lived with them. The English considered the Native Americans as a hindrance and they took ancestral lands, cut down trees, brought in insects and plants that would destroy the environment. This created a climate between the two worlds that gave the Native Americans no choice but to try to fight the English invasion.
