In a democracy, leaders are elected by the people for the people. In a dictatorship, one person or a small group of people (authoritarian government) make all the rules and rule the people. Usually the government in control in a dictatorship are extrememly difficult to overthrow. A monarchy is someone that has total power of a certain people. Monarchy status is usually inherited from grandparents, parents, or through marriage. Monarchies usually last until the king/queen/prince/princess/duke/dutchess or whatever monarchy it is dies.
Usually, old people were cared for by their families if they could not provide for themselves. If they could not provide for themselves, they were cared for by the Church, possibly in monasteries, or by their communities. Since charity was an important part of Christian life, they were not usually completely without support.
