Well after the Dorians conqured the Mycenaeans the area fell into a kind of Dark Ages. This is mainly due to the Dorians not really being literate. Because of this much of the culture that was around during the Mycenaean and Minoan times became lost. The Ancient Greek civilizations we are now familiar with Athens and so on were built on top the old ruins hiding them.
They were eventually discovered and while that answered the question as to if they existed or not the next question that emerged was whether or not the Minoans or Myceneans were the same peoples or different?
With the discovery of the Minoan Linear A (we can not read) and Linear B archeologists believe that they are indeed different because we are able to read Linear B which is Greek based showing the use of a different language which the Myceneans used. It is now believed they were different cultures and that Myceneans were infulenced by the trading based Minoans, but the Myceneans a more war like people eventually conquered the Minoans. Read Theseus and the Minotaur which is a story historians try look deeper into to back up this belief.
The Minoans influenced their civilization.

No. Most of the written Minoan language is undeciphered, so it is unclassified and the vocabulary is unknown.
Minoan paintings depicted people and social activities, wildlife, religion, and mythical creatures.
The Minoan people originated on the island of Crete and spread to the nearby islands (such as Santorini). They were named for the lengendary King Minos of Knossos.
The Minoans were the first people to "settle down" in Greece. they were rugged people, so when the Mycenaean came they tought them sea trade, a religion, a language and overall improved their life to become more civilized. The Minoans were more uncivilized people, where as the Mycenaean were more civilized. ______________________________________________________________________ Actually, I believe it's the other way around- The Minoans were very civilized and advanced (think running water and the real-life Atlantis) and the Myceneans were uncivilized "barbarians." The Minoans were a highly developed, very intelligent society that had improved painting, fresco making, travel, boat building, and pot making, as well as developing a huge trade system and navy, and "creating" running water. The Mycenaeans were a bellicose, warlike people who stole ideas from the Minoans and created little for themselves. After the Minoan Civilization fell, many of their advances were lost for centuries until modern technology. The Mycenaeans had no major interests in art and beautiful cities, but in war.

Early inhabitants of Greece
After the Dorians attacked, the Mycenaean people fled to the hills. Faced with learning to survive, they discontinued the use of writing skills.
