'eve' is the 'night before' - as in Christmas eve is the night before Christmas. It is also in evening which is the first part of night. Thus 'eve' refers to night time.
Literally, the old night. Used for New Years Eve.
I suggest staying up really late the night before Christmas Eve. This is what I am doing the night before Christmas Eve because I have problems as well. If you'd like, you could stay up all night the night before Christmas Eve. If you wouldn't like to do this, watch TV until you get really sleepy or just sit there with your eyes open and sing your favorite song. You will eventually get bored and fall asleep.
It has been a tradition to stay up till midnight because after 12:00 it will be THE NEW YEAR!!!!!!
