Answer: Because they had been held to do work for so long and some of their owners starved them to death. They want freedom because they were tired of the life their owners want them to do!

Answer: They wanted freedom for the same reasons anyone wants freedom now; it is because it is ones God given right, and no man or woman has a right to take it away from another. They were human beings, and no human being prides themselves in being owned by someone else as if they were furniture or an animal. They wanted to be their own men and women.
