Because they were part of the third estate, meaning they were part of the 97% percent of the people that represented France. In France there were 3 estates: the first (the nobility), the clergy (the church representatives estate (the bourgeoisie). The first and second estate did not the monarchy to disappear, they were content with the way the country was reigned, because they benefited the most of the way it was reigned. They had all kinds of privileges, did not have to pay taxes and received huge pensions. But the third estate was the poor bourgeoisie, who didn't have any of those benefits and had to pay up huge amounts of taxes, while the rich were getting richer and the poor poorer.

That is why the third estate rebelled. As the biggest group of inhabitants of France they wanted a say in how the country was ruled because they didn't think it was fair.

The French hated the British. While they may not have loved the Americans, they hated the British even more. The French were not particularly interested in the war, they just saw it as a way of suppressing British tyranny. As the saying goes, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

The bourgeoisie were individuals without a clerical title or noble title, but were relatively well-off. These individuals composed the majority of the lawyers, doctors, bankers, capitalists, industrialists, inventors, and academicians in French society. They supported the French Revolution because they were disenfranchised by the system of the Three Estates, even though they were the ones holding the economy together. They wanted their rights and saw a revolution as the way to achieve them.
