Why did the Egyptians mummify their deaths?

They did this to prepare themselves for the afterlife. They were obsessed with life, so they wanted it to go on forever. They believed that the tomb was the gateway to the afterlife. They put all their treasures like food, clothes, jewels, furniture and boats inside as they believed it was useful.
