The English wanted the American colonists to start paying taxes. The English felt the colonists should repay them for the war expenses incurred by fighting the Indians as well as help finance the war against France since they were (at the time) part of England.

The colonists, like all citizens everyplace, always paid tax. It was not anyhting "started". they paid them in Britian, or where ever else they came from, before coming to North America. Many paid substantially more.

Taxes are paid for army, and police, and education and all types of services....all of which the colonists needed a large amount of.

What they objected to was paying MORE tax (on some things) than the other citizens of England did.

Now you decide - was that objection justified?

Didn't the colonists require for say tea from china, more protection of HMS Navy to get it here than there? Didn't it cost more, and they needed more for the English army to stay here and protect them from the natives than in their homes over there?

Tax - that was/is paid everyplace.
