Not all of them sided with the French. The six nations of the Iroquois Confederation officially sided with the British. I think that many Indians took the French side because France generally had a better policy of coexistence with the North American natives. Unlike Great Britain, France did not move large numbers of settlers into North America. France did not attempt to remake North America in its own image. The French admired the Indians greatly, lived among them, and readily conformed to Indian ways. They treated the Indians as equals instead of inferiors. Although they were different in many respects, the French and Indians made very good allies.because the Indiana needed protection from the french colonies and the trade route

The Iroqois sided with the British because the French under Samuel De Champlain had quickly made enemies with them in the seventeenth century. They decided to make a treaty with the British because of this.

the person who wrote this needs to explain more in their answer and spell Iroquois correctly though other than that this is a great explanation.

The American Indian was being squeezed on many sides during the early days of european conquest.

The Huron and the Seneca would become deadly enemies in time but for all intents and purposes these tribes fought to remain trading partners with the French. It was quite a prize for tribes to

be trading partners with Europeans,in fact tribes often fought amongst themselves just for the

opportunity . tribes who lost most favored status lived to regret it. In fact the Huron and the Seneca

would fight a war for beaver pelts that would totally decimate the Huron and Erie tribes for years

to come.
