Not all of them sided with the French. The six nations of the Iroquois Confederation officially sided with the British. I think that many Indians took the French side because France generally had a better policy of coexistence with the North American natives. Unlike Great Britain, France did not move large numbers of settlers into North America. France did not attempt to remake North America in its own image. The French admired the Indians greatly, lived among them, and readily conformed to Indian ways. They treated the Indians as equals instead of inferiors. Although they were different in many respects, the French and Indians made very good allies.because the Indiana needed protection from the french colonies and the trade route
The Huron were the traditional enemy of the Iroquois. They were enemies for quite some time. When the Huron made allies with the French in the 1600s, the Iroquois saw this as a threat. They started doing raids, and they wiped out the Huron tribes. They were also an enemy of the French. The Beaver Wars that started in 1609 were actually the Iroquois fighting against the French and Huron over hunting grounds related to the fur trade. They also fought against the French and Algonquians during the French Indian War.
according to a series of books called the 'white indian' by donald clayton porter the seneca used green and yellow. i do not know how well the book was researched. paint may have been a clan not tribal thing, or completely individual. you are kind of thinking along the lines that tribes had uniforms of some sort which i find questionable. it seems from colonial french observation that the huron were partial to black. but even then, some black and white, some black and red.
They helped the french by fur trading.
Distrust
because they went to war and the algonquin & Huron were sided with the french but the Iroquois sided with the English
Several Native American tribes were involved in the French and Indian War. On the French side were the Shawnee, Algonquian, and Ottawa. On the British side were the Iroquois, Seneca and Onondaga.
The Huron tribe were their greatest enemy, taking extreme measures to fight the Seneca.
