Japan believed that the European powers were too involved in their own war to be able to respond to her aggression in the Far East. One reason that jumps out is the oil embargo the US put on Japan. Japan was engaged in war with China, which the US looked upon unfavorably.

∙ 16y agoJapan decided to expand World War 2 when they decided to bomb Pearl Harbor. When Japan did this America got very angry and got involved in the war that they had not planned to enter. America had Actually said that they were not going to get involved in the World War, but Japan changed that.

∙ 16y agoOh, ho! Almost got us that time! But Japan was never invaded. Japan surrendered within days of the dropping of the second atomic bomb (on Nagasaki). The surrender was accepted by General Douglas MacArthur, and made the invasion of the Japanese homeland unnecessary.

∙ 12y agoThey declared war because the USA cut off the supplies they needed. It was then that they decided that they wanted the Pacific ocean under their control so they could have their own resources available. The only problem was the USA standing in their way. So Japan went with a surprise attack in hopes of taking us down in one blow(Pearl Harbor), but failed because the carrier ships were out for training, so we were able to quickly recover.

When the Japanese bombed Perl Harbour in America the Americans wanted to declare war on the Japanese but the British persuaded the Americans that it was the Germans that started it and so the Americans declared war on the Germans and any other army with them including the Japanese on 11th December 1941.
