Don't really know, but I would say that people began to believe the doctrines of Christ as interpreted by Martain Luther. Though I believe the reformation was an inspired event and people like Martain Luther were inspired to question the theological beliefs of the time I don't necessarily agree in full with him. But many did and they named the church after Martain Luther continuing his ways of thinking. I don't think he wanted a church named after him but man took it upon themselves to do so. Many religions at the time did the same thing naming their faith after someone or something other than Jesus Christ. The Bible says there are many gods and false churches so I would think that any church that is named after the Savior, specifically Jesus Christ are worth considering or reasoning out their doctrines.
