Both of these things are cut out of the true movie, but they were still in love in the original. In Linda Woolverton's original script there were three kissing scenes between Alice and the Hatter. Why? Because Woolverton wrote the hatter with Johnny Depp in mind, because she has a major crush on him. Burton did not want his movie to be about a romance between Alice and Hatter so he scraped all references to a Alice/Hatter romance. Besides, Depp was like 25 years older than Wasikowska, and that would have been creepy. Anyway, there are no moments in the movie that suggest anything romantic between the Hatter and Alice. Although there is some lovely chemistry between Alice and the White Queen, whether intentional or not.
