Polish troops did not attack the Gleiwitz Transmitter. It was a fake attempt by Hitler and Nazis so they could invade Poland on 31 August 1939. Nazis faked the attack. Germany (with Slovakia) attacked Poland on 1 September 1939.

There was no agreement which allowed the German Nazis to invade Poland. There was a secret agreement with Russian for both countries to attack Poland. The Versailles Treaty forbid Germany from committing any acts of aggression. Their attack violated the treaty and this upset the Brits and the French. They declared war on the Germans following the violation of the Treaty.
Poland didn't necessarily start WW2. It was their vow to not fall to the Nazis so easily. It was the Nazis invasion OF Poland that started World War 2.
