Short answer: It helped the Nazis with the goal of Jewish genocide.

The Nazis wanted to get rid of all Jewish owned businesses, either by closing them, stealing them, or destroying them. This was just one of the first steps that the Nazis used to eventually impoverish, de-house & imprison all Jews in preparation for their complete extermination (murder).

  1. to emphasize to the general public the differentness of Jews from Germans
  2. to indicate stores that Germans should not shop at
  3. to give a clear excuse for punishing Germans that did shop there
  4. to make it easier later for Nazi ruffians to know the stores to vandalize during "Jewish incited riots" (actually incited by Nazis)
  5. to make it easier for Gestapo agents to know which places to raid for arrests and ultimately "deportation" to concentration camps
  6. etc.
