The reason that the US went to war with Britain is 1812 is because the British were capturing American merchant sailors and then forcing them into service in the Royal Navy. They also were seizing the cargo to keep it out of the hands of the French.

The French Forces in Britain was very small. Not that many made it out of France after the Battle of Dunquerqe (Dunkirk). The French armed forces did join with Britain and the US forces and they were known as the allied forces.
