The United Nations predecessor organization was the League of Nations which was founded at the end of WW1 as a result of the Treaty of Versailles and managed to attract at its best the participation of 58 countries during 24 September 1934 and 23 February 1935.
The League of Nations came into being after the end of World War One. Its main importance was that it had valuable coal mines.
Cautious after being involved in WWI and losing thousands of troops, the US Senate did not want a repeat of this. They decided not to get involved in European squabbles. This new policy of isolationism meant that they vetoed US membership of the League of Nations, despite the president's best efforts. Ironically, the lack of the US acting as a strong force for peace in the League, actually destabilised the system and brought about WWII.
The U.S.A. did not join the L.O.N. after Wilson's presidency ended because they adopted a policy of isolationism and did not want to get caught up in European affairs due to them being so far away. The American Government wanted to take a greater interest in Aisa because it was much close r to home. The question of the League of Nations was taken up in Senate. Because of the conservative rule in the Senate, the Senate turned down joing the League of Nations. PCH : WILSON
USA didnt they stayed out being tied up by them
The League of Nations was viewed by the world as "the league of the victors of World War 1" rather than a fair league for all nations. Most nations ignored the League and their goals therefore the League did little to prevent World War 2. The Treaty of Versailles was also connected to the League of Nations and many nations resented that Treaty. This was a major contributing factor of the reasons for World War 2 being started and fought.

The League of Nations was established by the Treaty of Versailles and pushed strongly by President Woodrow Wilson, which was signed at the end of the First World War. To become binding on the United States, it had to be approved by the United States Senate. The purpose of the Treaty and League was to achieve global peace amongst a society of nations. However, the bill that would make America part of the League, died in Congress. People were concerned because every country in the League would be superior in some ways to our government. Many people thought that it would violate American's sovereignty. And we could be brought into wars that we had no real stake in. The upshot is the Congress never approved it.
The League of Nations was created by President Woodrow Wilson in 1918, following World War I. It was created to promote peace throughout the world, though it failed largely due to the fact that the Senate did not approve of the Treaty of Versailles, meaning that the United States was not actually a part of the League of Nations. Being one of the most powerful and influential nations in the world at the time, America's lack of participation caused the league to fall apart. Woodrow created it thinking that the nations would be able to get together and talk through any issues that they were having in order to prevent warfare. He also hoped for a sense of security within the league against any outside forces which might threaten any one of the nations. The United States, however, feared that this would interfere with their isolationism and therefore voted against joining the League of Nations, though they did keep an unofficial observer at League meetings. The League of Nations was created and served as a mediation-organization for several years, but the United States Congress did not allow the United States to join the League of Nations because they were fearful of being involved in another European War. As history shows, the United States would be involved in a second war, regardless.
The United Nations replaced the League of Nations, which was established after the end of World War I, or The Great War. Despite being initially proposed by President Woodrow Wilson, the U.S.A. did not join the League, which subsequently splintered in the '30s in the years leading up to World War II.
Woodrow Wilson desired for peace, and wanted his fourteen points to be regarded in the peace treaty. but mainly he desired for a League of Nations, a committee for all nations. however AMerica felt differently, and senate never signed this treaty. In his tries to form a support group for this document, he went around giving speeches, but eventually had a stroke due to overwork. all his tries failed, because his wife would not let him meet anyone when he suffered from stroke, and America suffered with having no President.
