This decision was made to avoid the higher casualties caused by an actual invasion .
Dropped the Atomic bomb because it saved time, money and American lives
In the past, the sea around Japan helped to protect them from invasion. However, after the USA developed the atom bomb, the difficulty of invading Japan influenced them to drop the atom bomb.
The intent was to shorten the war and negate the necessity of actually invading Japan with Allied troops. Japan's leaders did not believe it could be done twice -so the second bomb was released over Nagasaki.
I think they decided to bomb there because there were alot of us.troops.
Im British but it was either drop the bomb or expect around 250,000 deaths from invading the country by land, air and sea
He was the president that had to decide to drop the bomb on japan or not
I wonder that right after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Japan refused to surrender after the bombing of Hiroshima.
President Harry S. Truman .
It was not "instead of", he was doing both. It is just that Japan surrendered in August 1945 after the second atomic bomb (of 23 planned atomic bombs before the end of 1945) instead of waiting for the invasion to begin in November 1945. It took time to set up the men, weapons, and supplies for the two planned invasions (November 1945 and spring 1946) while the atomic bombs were ready to use starting on August 6, 1945.
He authorized the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Why? Because japan had refused o surrender, and it was believed that a conventional invasion of the Japanese mainland would result in the deaths of over 1 million Allied service members.
Japan's military command was in one place for the strategy to bomb cities until Japan surrender. The US understood that Japan would hold but 2 were sufficient.
