After 9/11 it was clear that taking down the Taliban government and facilitating a new government in Afghanistan would aid in stabilizing the region (stopping the Taliban from continuing their heinous crimes towards their people) and allow us to carry out large join operations aimed at completely dissolving Al Qaeda, killing any and all members and leaders and completely disrupting their communications network and ability to operate from several locations in the Middle East. In the most simplest of terms, the U.S. took military action in Afghanistan to ensure our national security.
