S.E. Hinton was tired of books in her generation that were not realistic. They were like fantasies. She decided to make the book that has reality in it. That's what I learned, maybe someone else has a better one.

His English teacher was upset with his deteriating grades and told him to write an essay about anything he wanted, preferably from personal experiences.
Ponyboy decided on writing his story of the past month, from the day it all started.
