S.E. Hinton was tired of books in her generation that were not realistic. They were like fantasies. She decided to make the book that has reality in it. That's what I learned, maybe someone else has a better one.

The author S.E. Hinton wrote the book The Outsiders to be from Ponyboy Curtis's POV, in the form of an English essay to raise Ponyboy's grade to a C. His English teacher was upset with his deteriating grades and told him to write an essay about anything he wanted, preferably from personal experiences.

Ponyboy decided on writing his story of the past month, from the day it all started.

"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind. Paul Newman and a ride home..."

she wrote it cause she had seen one of her greaser friends gets jumped by and shes so s walking mad she goes home and starts writing a book About a Boy that is coming home from the movies and gets jumped by a soc.....
