They did not "fall" quickly. They gave up ground, but were able to stop the German drives and prevent the Germans from reaching their ultimate objectives.

Gradually, the Germans were exhausted, and the Bristch, together with the French and Americans went over on the offensive, which led to Germany's final defeat in November 1918.
