The colony of Georgia was very sparsely populated and the Continental Army lacked the funds and soldiers to protect it, thus, making the British occupation easier. Lt. Colonel Archibald Campbell invaded Georgia in December, 1778 and took Savannah followed by Augusta, leaving the British in control of Georgia.
