The French People were upset with King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette for raising taxes, and other reason, on the Third Estate. So, the Third Estate attacked the Bastille which at the time was the prison and it held all the weapons the King had. When they stormed it they killed over hundred people and put the governor's, De Launey, head on a pike and paraded it threw the city to send a message to King Louis XVI that they meant business.
