Spanish Monarchs were having the Reconquista. Which was the centuries-long struggle to make the Moors leave Spain.
They refused because they had there own thing going on were they were trying to make all of Spain cathlics then when they got that done with, they helped Columbus.

Actually Spain and Portugal wanted the lands Christopher Columbus discovered and would even fight for it. Later Pope Alexander VI settled the problem by making a boundary for Spain and Portugal.

People really didn't retire back at the day, like we do now. But Cristopher Columbus arrived back to Spain from his last (fourth) voyage to the New World at 1504, when he was 54 years old. Although he was arrested and imprisoned at age 48 and then brought back to Spain (because he had used torture to govern in the West Indies), that could be the age when his "career" ended. King Ferdinand released Columbus after only six weeks of inprisonment in Spain. Columbus wrote two books at his later years.

No. The King of Spain was a Catholic and therefore believed in the God of the Bible. As an interesting note, the King of Spain was later disgusted with reports of vilely Columbus treated the Native Taínos on the island of Hispaniola and recalled his governorship.

Indians. Columbus came later
England had nothing to do with the expeditions of Christopher Columbus. They were sponsored by the Queen Isabel I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon. Later these two countries, ruled by the married couple as separate kingdoms, became Spain.
Historians now think he was Spanish. The theory is he took a different persona because his family were political rivals of the crown and the crown would never support his ideas. To back up this theory they point out he only spoke and wrote in Spanish and was married to a Spanish Nobel woman. A rough Italian sailor would never have been permitted to marry into a wealthy Spanish family in the 1400's. Who someone married was very important and political.
When they got to America, the Native Americans where very nice and brought them food and gifts. But all Christopher Columbus wanted was gold....so he started to cut off their heads. So he fought the native Americans.
The king's adviser's told him not to because they thought Columbus had mistaken the size of Asia and the Atlantic Ocean (which he had). They also reminded the king of the progress they were making down the coast of Africa looking for their own route to Asia. So he said 'thanks, but no thanks' and Columbus went to Spain to ask Isabella three years later.
