tipis were easy to move, so the plains Native Americans could move with the herd, which was usually buffalo
in the late 1700 early 1800s the engishmen were slowly taking the Indians land, so they eventually allotted them area in the dry barren plains in south central America. the didn't move there ALL of the Indians were forced to live on a spit of land sharing lethal diseases and living off of little hunting and unfertile land.

They need to move around with the animals so they wouldn't run out of food so they had to have housing that would come with them. The teepees were light and easily moved. It was a logical choice. P.S. It was not all Indians that lived in the teepee, for it was only the plains tribe.
Buffalo was their was of life. Plains indians used and ate everything on the buffalo. The bones uses as tools, fur for clothing and meat for food. When the buffalo started to decimate so did the indians.

The Plains Indians were nomadic. They followed the buffalo. So when the buffalo moved the people moved. Note: The Plains have always been dry for at least part of the year - summer. The only time dry weather really effected the Plains Indians was when reservation boundaries were established. Not being able to roam as the food roamed would have made it difficult to obtain food and water.
It was great for scaring people as a story. the indians made this up to scare the white europeans from stealing land.
