Woodrow Wilson did not change the name. He proclaimed Armistice Day to be November 11 in 1919 to commerate the Armistice Agreement of 1918, which ended World War I. It continued to be known as Armistice Day until 1954, when Eisenhower formally changed it to "Veterans Day" to honor all military members who had served in the subsequent conflicts (WWII and Korea).

Armistice Day was a celebration of the end of World War One.

People felt that a holiday like this should honor soldiers in all wars, so in 1954 the name was changed to 'Veteran's Day'.
