One source of inspiration for the Commonwealth Games could have been the Reverend Astley Cooper. He suggested a 'Pan-Britannic-Pan-Anglican Contest and Festival... every four years as a means of increasing the goodwill and good understanding of the British Empire' in both Greater Britain and The Times in 1891.

The commonwealth games are a very successful sporting even that occurs every 4 years for members of the British Commonwealth. The games are significantly cheaper to host than the Olympic games and therefore can be hosted by smaller cities and countries than the olympic bringing the benefits to countries that need it. The next games are due to be held in Delhi in 2010.
