The heart was considered more important to facing the afterlife than the brain. The brain would be mashed by stirring with a metal prong inserted through the nose, and the brain hooked out and discarded.

∙ 6y agoEgyptians toke out the brain because they didn't know what it was for, when they take it out they take a sharp pointy tool stick it up their nose swirl it around several times until the brain comes out liquid.
The Brain along with many other organs are removed prior to mummification to prevent rotting as decomposition takes its course. These organs however were normally preserved and kept with the mummy as they would need them in the afterlife.
