Many people assume that the colors of the US Flag had specific meanings or stood for some characteristic. The red, white, and blue had no meanings at all when the Stars and Stripes were adopted as our national flag in 1777. But, the colors did have meaning when the Great Seal of the United States was developed. White meant purity and innocence, Red meant heardiness and valour, and Blue meant vigilance and justice, according to the Secretary of the Continental Congress, Charles Thompson. See the article on the U.S. Flag in Wikipedia or go to http://www.usflag.org/colors.html.
